"Strategy is about making choices, trade-offs; its about deliberately choosing to be different." Michael Porter
Much is made of strategic planning. Often it is over done - overly complicated. Years of developing and executing my own strategic plans as a senior executive (see bio) have given me the foundation of practical experience I offer each client as a facilitator. I work to keep the planning process as simple and clear as I believe it should be. Simple is powerful. My objective is to help each client develop a plan that can be executed with confidence and to avoid the mistakes that frustrate so many organizations.
Typically, I'll start the planning process with a brief workshop to familiarize everyone with the planning methodology and get the thinking started for the planning session. I use the approach that has served me so well for many years, starting with a situation assessment and then working through the strategic hierarchy (setting objectives, then developing strategies and tactics.) We close with some thoughts on the keys to executing the plan successfully. If your team is relatively new to the strategic planning process I can offer some thoughts on how to get them off to a good start and build some momentum.

"The Heart & Hands Leadership workshops are the most practical, readily applicable and inspiring pieces of leadership training I've ever had the privilege of attending. To put this in context, I started leadership training 45 years ago at a military academy, put it into practice first in the Vietnam war zone, and then for the next 40 years I've applied what I've learned in the business & local government realms. Looking back, I wish I had Dan as my instructor in that first leadership course."
